Who We Are

Cascade Prime Timers has always been a non-profit organization of active adults fifty years of age and over who enjoy the camaraderie of downhill skiing, x-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, kayaking, biking and other activities with friends who share a spirit of adventure. We recognize and promote the benefits of recreational activities and mental stimulation for a healthy and enjoyable lifestyle.

Cascade Prime Timers is run totally by volunteers. Our members bring a wide array of experiences, talents and knowledge that they share with the rest of us by volunteering for serving in different roles such as Board members, Treasurer, Membership Coordinator, Trip Leader, etc. This enables the Club to provide many different activities, trips and events. We have no office or telephone. On the last Monday of January, February, March, June, September and October there is a Social evening with a guest speaker, hors d'oeuvres, and no-host bar where we catch up with each other and keep up to date with current club news. The club publishes an informative newsletter (online) 6 times a year. Prospective members are always welcome at one of our socials, or by invitation to one of our activities to see us in action.

We are a Membership club. Club trips and events are provided only for Cascade Prime Timer members exclusively. Membership in Cascade Prime Timers (CPT) additionally includes membership with Far West Ski Association and The Northwest Ski Club Council, both of which run a variety of winter and summer activities in which our members are welcome to participate. Our membership is for a full year from the day you join.

Members pay annual dues which finance our non-trip activities. Our application for Tax Exempt Status and our non-profit Tax returns are available for public inspection by contacting our Club President. We also contribute a portion of our dues to worthwhile groups that support snow and non-snow activities.

Our History

Twenty members organized the club in December 1987 as the Over The Hill Gang, Mt Hood Chapter, which was the largest club in the Over The Hill Gang group of clubs. Mt Hood Meadows ski area instigated the founding meeting which was held at Mt Hood Meadows. In May of 1995, the club became Cascade Prime Timers.

The first social was organized by Nancy Johnson in 1988 at Cal's in John's Landing. The first picnic was held in 1988 at the home of the Larsells' lake front home on "Mud" lake, just south of Blue Lake. The first newsletter was called the 'Gang Plank'. Now our newsletter is called ‘The Prime Times’.

Originally started as a ski club, we later branched out and now offer many more year-round activities. Winter activities include Downhill (alpine), Nordic (cross country) and three levels of Snowshoeing. The Summer activities include three levels of Hiking on Fridays or Monday, Paddling, Monday Rambles and an Annual Picnic. Our club has several informal groups such as Ethnic Dinners, Intermediate Bridge, Wednesday Game group and an annual Adopt-A-Highway group. We also have fabulous year-round overnight trips, and international trips.

We invite you to try one of our activities by clicking on the Try An Activity button on the Home Page. One of our Membership team members will contact you.
